Theme of the ALSA International Conference 2012

The   theme   for   this   year‟s   conference   is   “Evolving   Asians   toward sustainability”.  The  theme  is  based  on  the  background  of  the  vibrant  and  ever-evolving business and political development of most Asia countries. Asia is currently
recognized as the  fastest developing  region of the world with the largest amount of
world  population  and  natural  resources.  Asia  has  undergone vast  changes  over   the last few decades  and  it  is  playing  an  increasingly important  role  in  the  world.

The rapid  development of  Asia  has changed the  economical  and  political  landscape  of many  countries  in  Asia.  Questions  on  various  issues,  such  as  free  movement  of business   persons,   professionals,   talents   and   labor,   fair-trading,   environmental protection,  protection  of  intellectual  property  have  been  brought  to  light,  and  these issues have yet to be addressed and resolved. Sustainable growth means maintaining the fast pace of development and at the same time minimizing the opportunity cost to be  sacrificed.  Methods  of  maintaining  a  sustainable  growth  in  Asia  is  of  great importance  and  concern  to  many  countries.

At  this  juncture,  law  plays  a  very important role. We believe that laws do not only serve to maintain peace and order, but also to promote and encourage sustainable growth. In light of these premises, the theme is aptly allows students across Asian regions to gather and discuss, to debate and  exchange  views  on  how  the  law  can  help  Asian  countries  to  maintain  a sustainable growth in the near future. Bearing in mind that the students are the future businessmen,  politicians and  leaders  of  the  countries  one  day;  the  awareness of  the importance  of a sustainable  growth  might  be  able  to  promote  a  better  Asia  in  the future.
